How to become a tech influencer

This week we’re quoting Jordi van den Bussche (Founder and CEO at JVDB Studios)

What Jordi said:

“Building a large, active audience online required a mix of consistency, a combination of quantity and quality and constant innovation.”

We asked him how he built his online audience

Because with a community of over 20 million followers, Jordi is an influencer in the gaming and content creation space – and he’s using his platform to innovate at the intersection of tech and digital content. In particular, he’s using AI to produce high quality content. And through JVDB Studios, he’s helping others do the same.

A large online following opens doors for techies across all segments. From reaching more people with your ideas and tech philosophy, to creating brand awareness and the opportunity to launch new products or services into an active, eager market – being an influencer can make your loftiest goals possible.

But how do you do it? How do you go from someone who works in tech, to someone who influences an engaged community of followers in your space?

Like Jordi said…

Firstly, be consistent. That means releasing content on a regular basis so your followers know they can rely on new stuff from you. It doesn’t matter whether you’re publishing on LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, a blog, or a self-owned platform; keep going.

Consistency will enable you to steadily grow your audience, build their trust in you, develop your voice and build your brand.

Secondly, create quality content – but don’t give up when you’re short on ideas. When inspiration has abandoned you (and it happens to everyone, by the way) it’s better to share something short and informative than to not share anything at all. Build a library of simple ideas you can pull out to fill in the gaps when you haven’t got any exciting content to share.

And thirdly, keep moving. Keep innovating. Don’t just stick with the same formula every week, every month, or every year – tap into your creative mind and find new ways to reach your audience, fresh ways to communicate ideas, and constantly assess the feedback you’re getting. Agility will help you stay fresh so you can retain long-term followers and gain new ones.

Don’t assume you have to do it the way everyone else has done it

The influencer economy is changing all the time. It’s not just about getting brand deals and affiliate links anymore – more and more influencers are turning to alternative revenue models to generate income and stay in control of their creative practices.

And tech influencers are better placed than any to harness new platforms, new technologies, and new possibilities. You’re at the cutting edge of tech. So how can you use your knowledge to enhance your position as a thought leader or influencer?

We love the way Jordi has done this:

“Being consistent to my followers, and embracing new technologies, such as AI, to push the boundaries of what's possible in content creation has kept my content fresh and engaging.”

Take this as inspiration, look at your own skill set, and consider how you could integrate the tech you know best into the world of content creation and audience growth.

And stay connected to your ‘why’

Here at LEAP, we’re big believers in the power of the ‘why’.

Why do you want to build a bigger following?

How will it help you achieve your goals; and why does it matter that you get your message out into the world?

Come back to your why regularly to remind yourself of the purpose behind the effort you’re putting into consistent, quality content. Because when you stay connected to the reason you’re doing it, you’re more likely to stay committed.

Grow your network of likeminded, passionate techies at LEAP 2025.
